Summer Days
Some pictures from a small garden party in August back in Thüringen. It was warm and sunny...and there were lots insects trying to eat us up bit by bit.

town of opposites
At the beginning of the month we ventured to Kassel to go and see the big art exhibition called 'documenta'. This spectacle only takes place every five years, I really liked the one five years ago, so of course we had to go. After getting up far too early and taking a car share who's average speed was 200 km/h on our lovely Autobahn, we arrived in Kassel bright and early and it looked like it was gonna be a sunny day. We went on a Saturday and half the nation seemed to have decided that going there on the weekend was a good idea too. If you wanted to see any indoor exhibitions, you had to queue up, a long long time. And of course you weren't allowed backpacks, so you had to queue up infront of the cloakroom containers first...and afterwards too, to get your stuff back. Obviously, we weren't impressed. So instead we just took a stroll trough the city, which seemed huge to us, even though Wikipedia tells me it only has about 200.000 inhabitants. Kassel is an interesting town, you have lovely old and old-fashioned brick buildings right next to modern design monstrosities, partly the fault of WW II bomb damage. But sometimes you just think they let all the mad architects roam free, without any sense of proportion. It also is a very green town, with nice parks and many open spaces. I'm sure even worth a visit when there's no big exhibition and millions of underage hipster kids with cameras they don't know how to use loitering around...

musicians pulling funny faces...
Granted, if you're playing the bagpipes you can't help it, but what's the excuse for the others?
This is my favourite medieval band Varius Coloribus Experience from Berlin. As I'm not just a frequent visitor of medival spectacles but from time to time help my mother out when she's selling her artwork there, I usually don't take that many photos for lack of time. This year though, I managed to sneak away from our cozy little hut a couple of times...

Don't trust what you read on the internet.
On another one of our holidaying days we went to Kap Arkona, they have lighthouses there. Near to those was supposed to be the "traditional fishing village" of Vitt. Or so the tourist information website said. Traditional my ass. Only because they had some thatched roofs and only 72 inhabitants it was nowhere near traditional. When I hear traditional and village in one sentence, I'm inclined to expect something like the wonderful Kerry Bog Village. And that was definitely not what we found there. Motorboats, modern cars parked in neatly fenced in front yards. With ugly new metal fences. A shabby little cafe containing two grumpy employees that probably didn't get any new clothes or style advice since the wall came down and so on. I know moan, moan, moan, but honestly, this was definitely not what we expected.

Day out in Binz.
More holiday pictures, we took a trip on a boat from the small harbour town of Sassnitz to the fairly posh seaside resort Binz. What did we do there? We walked around, took lots of pictures and hand fed some sparrows (photos of these still to come). The weather was not very summerly for a day in Mid-July, but we still had some ice cream.

Things I do at work...
Funny bread faces? Way to mainstream. This is what I made (and what half the class copied of course...)
Also, one of them did a portrait of a teacher. Quite accurate I dare say...

Weggefährten mit Tackerklammern im Ohr...
...und Sicherheitsnadeln im Kopf.
Diese Zwei haben mich auf der Zugfahrt nach Hause bewacht. Irgendwo werden sie vielleicht gerade vermisst.

ode to the bubble bath
The best way to cure a beaten body after too many hours spent at the pub and not enough hours spent in bed is neither catching more sleep on an uncomfortable armchair or the sofa nor is it drinking copious amounts of very strong, very black coffee. A quick shower might seem invigorating for a moment but the physical collapse is merely postponed...
